16: The Camera (on your phone)
Many professional photographers who were derogatory about the early cameras available on our phones have now come to realise 'the best camera' is 'the one which is with you'. It's tempting to describe this incredible device as a visual recorder and yes it can be that: of a poster with details of the live gig at a local venue, of flip-chart actions and of the stunning birthday cake baked for Jack. But the real joy of the camera is enhancing your skills as an observer. What is it about that building which so wants us to try and capture the faded pinks of its walls and tiles made of local clays? Observing carefully connects us to the now, to the simplest of pleasures and slows the relentless nature of time's arrow.
Use that camera phone to observe not simple to record. Notice how excellence blossoms.
