It was amazing what they had achieved that week: they had gelled as a team; they had arrived at what they believed was their breakthrough idea; they had created a plan and costings for that idea. That's how Jo wanted them to function for the next 12 months. But they had one final hurdle: the pitch to Tim, CEO. Their planning for the pitch (Thursday) had gone seamlessly. Friday had been tougher: they actually had a team of good presenters but with some very different styles and so it fragmented needlessly what they were trying to say.
Eventually they'd had a good pitch mid-afternoon on Friday and Jo had decided to stop with success as he could sense the fatigue and they had agreed to meet 1000-1200 Sunday for a final two run-throughs. He was confidant it would go well. They had:
- a coherent story;
- accurate 'worst-case' timings and costings;
- been able to handle confidently and without BS every question Jo in his role as Tim had put to them in the practise Q&As;
- clear, closing questions of what they wanted and when.
They simply needed a 'seamless' switch between presenters. And Jo wanted more than one presenter to indicate the team effort.
OK: the final push. He checked his phone: 0924. And rain on its way. He started brewing some coffee.
