Why do an MBA?
So that you get the very best and leading edge knowledge, skills and thinking to enable you to build and/or continue to build a successful business.
There are two challenges, though. The first is that it’s a big investment to take a year out of your career or to commit endless weekends to a part-time version. And secondly-perhaps a little more subtly-today’s MBA programme is so busy, so full of options, assignments, super analysis of where-businesses-went-wrong and team sessions that the essence of what makes business work and the thinking that is so critical to success is so often lost: a classic case of ‘can’t see the wood for the trees’.
Hence Instant MBA, the workshop. This gives you in one short, sharp session the definitive and essential knowledge, skills and most importantly thinking which is essential for creating and/or building and/or re-inventing a viable and profitable business. And by ‘business’ that could clearly mean a unit or division with P&L accountability within the greater organisation: everything covered in the programme you can use immediately in your business, career, your team, your division and/or your new start-up. We all run a business, now. And if we don’t we are vulnerable.
Plus Instant MBA reflects a greater emphasis on the ‘soft’ aspects. The old favourites such as the Boston Matrix are all there, of course. Plenty of discussion on price elasticity and innovation, too. These ‘tools’ are as vital as they ever were; up-graded with new versions and ideas, of course. But the New MBAs are fighting hard to carve out time out for ‘Emotional Intelligence’ and ‘Experiential Marketing’ and other ‘less tangible’ topics. Why? Because they are the new differentiators. They can’t be replaced by a chip. In the New World of Work soft is hard.
I spent several very enjoyable years as a visiting lecturer at one of Europe's leading Business Schools. But the more I taught there, the more I knew I needed to create this programme. Honed and road-tested with demanding clients across several sectors over the last few years, this is its first 'public' outing. Join us.
