Being is who we are. Human beings. But doing is what we often prefer. Human doings. Being engages our full consciousness: we are at one with our love, with the canvas, with chopin on our play-list and the perfectly done fish on the barbecue. At one with the work of Monet, the wine-dark open sea, the challenge of change. Doing can disguise that, numb that, give relief from that. Doing can distract from that which needs addressing, needs considering. We clearly need to do. As Hunter-Gatherers of the 21C we must forage, hunt, gather and prepare our PPT slides. But we must allow ourselves to be: to consider, to share stories and poetry and relish the storm which sweeps the plain.
