- HB: pretty nice. But be soft, try really soft. The melting graphite of a 4B; you just have to draw with it as it slides across some Italian brown wrapping paper.
- Get a decent sharpener. Brass would be good with a bit of weight to it so it doesn't skid across the walnut surface of your desk-top but patiently sits awaiting next use.
- And an eraser. Please, not a rubber.
- But as a true craftsperson you might occasionally rest the essential pencil behind your ear to allow focus on the bigger task at hand such as constructing a shelf for your books.
