When you arrive in the morning, don't do e-mail first.
Unless, clearly, your job is simply to manage e-mail.
If you are a leader get out and do some leadership. If you need to create, go create. Or sell or write. And then when you feel you have been truly productive, really done what you are rewarded to do, go clear some mail. It can wait.
