A Beaker of Water

Forget whether it's half-full or half-empty for the moment.  Stare deep into that water: it's back-to-back water molecules: that’s predictable and that's guaranteed. Now imagine a few cm above the water: it's teeming air molecules: oxygen, nitrogen; bit of pollution maybe. Predictable stuff. But what’s happening at the surface? What's happening at the water/air interface? Is there an 'edge' water molecule interfacing with an oxygen molecule? Have any water molecules 'escaped' the water and penetrated the air? It's at the interfaces that interesting things happen. The interface of cosmetic surgery and nano technology. The interface of biomechanics and ancient Ayurveda medicine.
