Don't Look

for an easy, mechanistic, routine kind of job. A job which almost looks after itself. A job which allows one to spend time on Facebook and drink coffee. One which means you can take an extended break and nobody misses you. One where most mail can be ignored and somebody else will pick up the issue.

Because one day that very job will be replaced by a responsive, efficient, easily maintained, cheap, humming quietly little chip.

Look for a job which is hard, needs intelligence especially of the emotional kind. A job which needs depth of character, the ability to plan ahead, synthesise the essentials, prioritise and anticipate stuff. A job which is riddled with pure skills which allow you to grow and become rock star good at what you do.

Ha: try and get a chip to do all of that in the foreseeable future.
