Much in life needs planning and longer-term thinking.

100 Word Story

It was a bit of a fresh start Monday. A toxic relationship had been ditched-with tears-on Friday night, wardrobes had been cleared of ‘no-longer-her’ clothes on Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon had been the gym. Sunday morning had been writing real letters to friends for whom she apparently hadn’t had the time the last year or so. Sunday afternoon was back to her writing which had been equally ignored.  And fresh start Monday was to make this wretched job of hers work whilst planning her own venture. Yes, it had been a really good weekend. And an even better week beckoned.

Life Tips 101: The Eighth Ten

1. Start before you need to. 
2. You don't need to explain everything.
3. Try a higher 'B' pencil for faster flow across the page and more 'connect' with the idea.
4. Surprise your competitors by coming out of the sun.
5. Work at getting sound, deep uninterrupted sleep.
6. Learn more. Forget a little.
7. Excellence is great. Consistency in excellence is awesome.
8. Tomorrow is indeed a fresh start.
9. Reduce the stuff in your life: it's causing drag.
10. Plan it. Do it. Review it. Kaizen.

From Knowing It to Getting It.

'Knowing' about nutrition doesn't mean we 'get' nutrition. 'Knowing' the material of an MBA doesn't mean we 'get' business. 'Knowing' our objectives at work doesn't mean we 'get' what we are meant to be doing minute to minute.

There's a potentially big gap between knowing something and really understanding it. Really being able to apply it. Really seeing the simplicity the far side of complexity. Really getting it.

That requires practice and returning to the material and reading and writing. Yep, it requires time in a busy world. It's worth it though, because getting it is about 1000 times more useful than just knowing it. A pretty cool Return On Investment.

Take 30 minutes out today to shift a knowing to a getting.
