Between desperate attempts to close down the sales target, manage another mince pie and bouts of Christmas shopping a thought will often lurk: so how did I do? How was 2012 for me?
The nature of the 2012 review is everywhere. End of term reports, 'the best and worst of' by normally thoughtful columnists and video montages.
The reality: progress is slow. We may well not have got our manuscript accepted. Nor developed A&F doorman acceptable abs. Nor escaped from Cubicle City. But we made progress so long as we noticed. Progress is so often slow. The amazing stories which the media capture for us are at the ends of the bell curve. Slow and steady is not at all bad. Keep growing, keep testing, keep pushing, keep going, keep having fun. Most importantly slow down enough to notice what you have achieved. Life is good. It doesn't need to be a lotto win.
