How To Be More Intelligent 25

1. Go deeper than others. Ask a probing question.
2. Go wider than others. Ask a 'how does that connect?' question.
3. Ask, listen, debate, note. Repeat.
4. Visit museums, art galleries and towns especially those which do not initially appeal.
5. Ask experts to explain. And not to be condescending when they do it.
6. Practise holding two opposing ideas in your head with equal respect for a few hours.
7. Draw the idea.
8. Teach the idea.
9. Write about the idea.
10. Summarise the idea in 1000 words.
11. Then in 100 words.
12. Then in 10 words.
13. Then in a word.
14. Slow down so that surfing the world stops and you sink. Into the material.
15. Be willing to revise cherished beliefs and facts.
16. Be willing to change.
17. Take care with language which is our coded represenation of the world.
18. "I could never understand Physics". Er, really? Maybe you simply needed better teaching.
19. Take a helicopter view.
20. Take a 4 by 4 on the surface into the jungle view.
21. Learn something different every day.
22. Wander and wonder.
23. Wonder and meander.
24. Meander and imagine.
25. Decide to be so: it's an intelligent move.
