(The back story is here)
- Accept slimmer time-slices for writing. Sure, we'd all like a whole day on our article, but accept a hurried 20 mins during lunch.
- Accept a less than perfect environment. No, you're not overlooking the sea. So, no distractions, then?
- Have your writing materials with you all of the time.
- Set a target for each day. Number of words in minimum time.
- Drive out the quantity, then edit for quality.
- Never, ever accept 'writer's block'. Accept that there are tricky days, snowy days and days when you argue with your boyfriend. But none of these cause a real writer a real block. They just provide more material.
- Write when you have a cold.
- Read the great writers to (re-inspire) you.
- Let go of needing the early approval of others. Even publishers. Come on, of their own admission, what do they know?
- Forget the money whilst writing.
- Forget best-seller lists whilst writing
- Forget your Mum whilst writing.
- Just start
- Just start. Now.
