- Make your terms absolutely clear on all your correspondence.
- Issue invoices promptly with a repeat of the terms.
- Ensure your 'money chaser' rings to check that (a) the invoice has been received and (b) there is no problem to stop its payment on the right day. If there is a problem: resolve it.
- If the payment is one day late, ring to enquire-politely-what the difficulty is. And ask for prompt payment.
- Continue until payment is received.
- By remembering that businesses so often go bust not because of lack of profitability but lack of cash.
- By remembering that assuming you delivered your part of the deal, you have a right to be paid on time. Allowing customers to pay late is a slippery slope.
