- Work really, really hard on any skill which increases your speciality.
- Read every damn book on 3 and 4.
- Go on every decent course you can to support 3 and 4.

- Their mistake: pay for your own training.
- Invest (heavily) in yourself.
- Put 2% of your earnings aside for your own learning and development.
- Absolutely definitely spend more on your skill-set than you do on your car or public transport.
- Volunteer for anything which which allows you to move beyond just very good and become earth-shatteringly great.
- Write stuff down. Identify the action. Do it. Cross it off. Move on.
- Work out how to move beyond the 'shelf-stacker' by-the-hour payment scheme you are currently on, to the brain surgeon by-the-job scheme.
- Ignore anyone who says you can't double your salary that quickly. Ask them how much they have tried, really tried? Quite.
- Don't blame the recession. It has raised MORE problems to solve, that's great for problem-solvers like you.
- When you start rolling in money use it for personal freedom and world peace. Not a new sofa. The former will liberate. The latter will imprison, for Life.
- Get incredibly knowledgeable about your field. Not a job. Nor career. A Passion.
- Never be pulled down by cynics, people who wing it nor those whose only creativity is padding their expenses.
- Stay super-well by getting out every lunch-time. Not for a beer. And getting home on time. Not for e-mail.
- Get supper productive by using your brain, not just your Blackberry.
- Once you have established your brand, reputation and a great portfolio of work start-politely and persistently-negotiating for better pay.
- Only talk to those who can decide.
- Never threaten, black-mail nor get smug.
- And if they don't get it or simply can't afford you (after all you are pretty damn amazing now) you can always work for yourself. As now you know exactly how to do it.
