| 5 Ways To Have More Fun at Tomorrow's Comms. Meeting »
- Novel not happening? Start with a 100 word story. Double it for five consecutive days (100, 200, 400, 800, 1600 words). Then write 1000 words every day. FYI, Stephen King typically writes 180K words, Zoe Heller around 110K.
- Weight not reducing? Halve every portion, every time. Use smaller plates, glasses and mugs.
- Million not appearing in the bank account? Save 2£/$/euro from your end-of-day-change into a jar. Every month bank it.
- Perfect job not yet been offered? The CV is undoubtedly fine: work on the covering letter. Is it really you or just a down-loaded template (natural leader, fluent in five languages etc etc), does it engage (why should they read on?), does it sell you (what can you do that others cannot?).
- Depression not yet cleared? Take a walk to the park and escape in a book. Raining? Go to the café in the museum and read there. Not got a great book: join the library.
- Money still tight? Only buy something if it has been on your list for 4 days. To get on the list it must be vital i.e. your Life depends upon it. So yes to a loaf of bread, yes to cartridge for the printer so can do your CVs and yes to a new toothbrush (health-care can be expensive). No to a new pair of jeans (assuming you’ve got at least one viable pair), no to a week-end in Lisbon (unless you can couple it with a job interview) and no to the cinema (there’s still something in Blockbuster’s special offer section you haven’t seen).
- Inspiration still lacking? Try reading the book you have always avoided despite everyone telling you it will help. Yes, that’s the one: Julia Cameron, The Artist’s Way.
