Across the globe, owners of small business have got up extra early this morning, stopped on third for a latte-to-go and arrived in the office while the street lights are still glowing. Why? To clear stuff: paperwork, pay bills, get the stock ready...Here are five if that's you:
- However long the hours you work are, ensure you get some decent chunks of rest: even if your job is very physical, your brain is your greatest asset. Rest!
- Decide that you will start working on your business not just in it. The pressures just 'to do stuff' are huge. So start with just 15 minutes a day, asking fundamental questions such as where could we boost profitability, how could we get money sooner out of our late payers.
- Spend just a bit more time with all your staff: (1) to show that they are valued and (2) to check they know EXACTLY how to do their job well.
- Focus on the future. It was easier in the past, sure; but that kind of nostalgia isn't useful in this context.
- Keep the front windows of your hardware store sparkling clean. The details matter: still.
