John Lennon. Where would we be without John Lennon? Poorer, significantly poorer in so many ways. As a boy, John had a dream: he wanted a gang. He loved the Richmal Crompton Just William books and wanted a gang just like that. He also loved words. And of course the newly blossoming rock 'n roll of Elvis, Buddy Holly, Cliff and the Shadows drove him wild with passion. Put it all together and he gave us the greatest musical quartet which has ever stalked the planet. Sure he needed Paul and George and Ringo. But he took steps one to six on the long journey.
Poor John. Steeped in anguish. Losing his mother, unable to find his place in school and college and then sucked dry by his fans. That drive and passion to release his talent combined with his anguish gave us amazing words and sounds. First tempered by his buddy Paul then an eclectic mix on his own.
Hey, John: thanks for it all. You are sorely missed.
It’s another reason we love The Beatles.
